GIVE A DAMN

"Give a damn" is good advice
Living once or living twice
but living twice is hard to do
So "give a damn" the first time through.
You're given only one slim chance
and no free lunches in advance.

What does it mean to "Give a damn?"
It means you say "I'm what I am"
It means to cry when things go wrong,
to feel a poem or a song.
When things go right, it means to say
"I cared, I tried in every way."

I know it's hard to learn to fight,
to know your strength and know what's right,
to learn to laugh, to cry, and shout,
to let both joy and anger out.
But if you don't you'll become a sham
Then it's too late to "Give a damn."
